Order Form Help

The order form can be used an alternative to the index map. The order form
page allows greater control over the request. Once the desired values have
been entered into the form, the "Order" button near the bottom can be clicked
to start the translation.

The order form is used as follows:

  • The (x,y) position of two corners of the search area rectangle can be
specified. The sample data coordinates are in decimal degrees of Latitude (Y)
& Longitude (X). Clicking on the "Clear Search" button clears the position
values. Clicking on the "Set Max Extent" button sets the rectangle values to
the maximum extent of the sample data.

  • One or more themes in different categories can be manually selected from the
theme pulldown lists. All theme selections can be cleared by clicking the
    "Clear Themes" button.

  • SpatialDirect can perform auto theme selection if desired. This means that
it will automatically select themes based on the area of the current search
rectangle. These auto-selected themes are displayed in addition to any that
are manually selected in the order form by the user.

The smaller the search area, the more themes that are automatically selected.
The largest area view showing the entire data extent auto-selects coastlines
and political boundaries only. Smaller areas auto-select additional themes.

Auto theme selection can be turned on/off by checking/unchecking the "Auto
    Theme Selection"
checkbox located directly below the theme pulldown lists.

  • The desired output format can be chosen from the "Format" pulldown list.

  • The size of the GIF image can be selected from the "Pixels" pulldown list.
The higher the number the larger the displayed GIF image. The default size
is 350, which was chosen to ensure that most images would not require
scrolling to see them fully. However, larger images can be generated by
selecting a higher value in the list.

  • The desired coordinate system can be selected from the "Coordinates"
pulldown list. The default output coordinate system is Albers Equal-Area,
    NAD83.

  • A URL string is displayed in a text field at the bottom of the order form.
This represents a URL-encoded form of the translation request as specified
in the order form fields above. As the contents of these fields are changed
during user input, the corresponding URL is updated to reflect the
    modifications.

The URL can be sent to SpatialDirect by clicking the "Send URL" button. This
initiates the remote fetch form of the translation request, and is
equivalent to clicking on the "Order" button. The URL string can be cleared
by clicking the "Clear URL" button.

A URL can also be manually entered and sent as well, as long as the URL
conforms to the SpatialDirect syntax for remote fetch URLs.
